AH, SO you’re going to Cartagena,” exclaimed Carlos Santa Ana when I met him at the National Exhibition. “I think you’ll like it.” He pronounced “Cartagena” with the guttural flourish that only a true Spaniard can command. (Note to self: better start practising.)
Carlos was right; we loved Cartagena. It is a naval town; the Spanish equivalent of Portsmouth, but with an even longer history, wonderful architecture and rather more sun.
It also had more Lizard canaries at the end of October because the Club Amigos del Canario Lizard were holding their annual show there.
