Given the extent of the lacquering in the bottom-end of the motor I’m expecting similar stuff in the carbs.
Yup, I’m not disappointed, they are a bit manky, but the good news is they’re all original, no snapped-off float pedestals, no missing jets. With carbs this old and this small it’s important to be very careful to have good-fitting screwdriver blades for any jets or other fragile bits. Don’t be scared to put the carb in a bowl of boiling water for a few minutes either, it won’t hurt it and it may make the difference between a pilot jet that hasn’t seen daylight for 40 years or so, coming out easily, or one that stubbornly refuses to move. A warm carb body will also give up its emulsion tube much more readily, and those too need to come out.
A few hours in the ultrasonic bath and a bit of help with a stiff nylon brush will shift pretty well anything. Carefully I
