After weeks of teasers and hints on social media, it’s official. Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) and co are back on our screens this winter as the Brummie gangster saga reaches its sixth and final series – although not its conclusion as, according to creator Steven Knight, we can still expect a big-screen outing in the future.

In the meantime, and with a mild spoiler alert for anyone catching up on the series via streaming, we rejoin Tommy immediately in the wake of series five. Having squared up to odious fascist leader Oswald Mosley (Sam Claflin), Tommy has suffered a rare setback. Why? How? And will he really take his own life?
