BRACE YOURSELF

Ollie Harvey records the bag in brace: “16 brace of partridges and 23½ brace of pheasants” (The Formula 1 of driven shooting, 5 January). Many years ago, I noted in an article for Shooting Timesa bag in similar style, only to be corrected in no uncertain terms by a senior contributor, G L Carlisle. Gordon pointed out that a bag of pheasants is never, ever, counted in brace if more than two birds are shot.
