The term ‘Christmas box’ dates back to the 17th century and refers to a gratuity or present traditionally given to workers on the first weekday after Christmas as thanks for their service throughout the year. As a result, the first weekday after Christmas is now known as Boxing Day. As Christmas Day 2021 fell on a Saturday, the true Boxing Day was on Monday
