You may have heard of the serotonin-boosting trend of dopamine dressing. Clothes with therapeutic qualities that some say are mood-boosting. A category that not only includes happy hues, but creative textures, playful patterns and bold shapes. Anything that makes the wearer feel optimistic, motivated and decidedly more buoyant.

Swedish company Klarna, which offers a buy-now, pay-later service on internet purchases, has seen colourful clothing sales rise in the UK at a rate of 1.5%, as opposed to plain black pieces in a year from 2020 to 2021; and it seems that this upward trend isn’t going away.

Black has long been the colour of choice in fashion, “One is never over or underdressed with a little black dress,” quipped Karl Lagerfeld; while Yves Saint Laurent once stated, “I love black because it affirms, designs, and styles. A woman in a black dress is a pencil stroke”.
