Particularly when Honda immediately secured the services of Pablo Quintanilla, formerly on Husqvarna. Some speculated that the Honda marketing corporates wished to see Ricky Brabec take back-to-back wins in 2021, but Benavides had a mind of his own.

Anything seems possible when the results of the final stage of the 2021 Dakar are scrutinised, and it appears his defection to KTM may not have not been amicable.
