A JOB LOT

“We both learnt to drive in Minis,” says Von Hunt. “Our first car we bought together was a Mini that I paid for because Roger was an apprentice and didn’t have any money. Then I had an absolutely fabulous black 1275 GT. I had that for quite some years. I used to take our daughter Stacey to youth club in it and probably take six kids home in it afterwards. And then, sadly, we sold it and we always wish we never had.”

Roger takes over the story of how selling that Mini led to the 1990 Racing Green RSP Mini Cooper S we see here. It came into their lives a couple of years later. “I bought it in 1995, ready for Von’s 40th birthday in early ‘96. I was looking for a Mk1 Cooper S and couldn’t find one. Trev, my business partner, said that there was a Cooper S for sale in a boating magazine. I looked in the magazine and thought ‘that’s a modern Mini so I’m not sure about that’. I’d not driven a modern Mini at the time but I rang the bloke selling it and asked him about it. He said it was immaculate
