The legend of BOGUS

In 2021 MiniWorld magazine celebrated 30 years. As a member of the launch crew, that came as something of a shock. I mean, where did those 30 years go? Still, it was reassuring to pick up the 30th anniversary issue (well download it from my Readly App, on to my iPad. Try doing that in 1991) and still recognise some of the names involved in the scene and even a piccie of myself, helping to push ‘Nigel’ the Clubman project car at Somerford Mini Centre, fresh from its collapsed garage resting place, covered in snails and ivy.

Launching MiniWorld was easily one of the most fun times of a 35-year publishing career; hats off to Nigel Fryatt for the ‘big idea’ and equally hats off to him for recognising the importance of a ‘project car’ in MiniWorld’s DNA. What a project car we came up with first: Bogus.

Of course, no-one could possibly know what a legend Bogus would become but perhaps the signs were there from the get go. The opening line issue 3, was: “Bogus is a b**tard…” That’s hardly glowing, now is it?
