Flip, flop and fly
Under the spotlight this month is the German verwandlungs VW. This roughly translates to conversion or transformation VW, and is a reference to the unusual style of transforming body. It is more commonly known amongst VW toy collectors as the CKO flip-top Beetle, and was designed and built by the German toy firm founded by Georg Kellermann in 1910.
Kellermann learned his trade while working at the toy firm of Bub, and was later a werk meister at Distler, both also located in Germany.
In 1920, the CKO logo was created by using a large K and a smaller O inside a large C. Although the actual company name is Kellermann & Co., because of the neat logo design it is more commonly referred to as simply
