Toyota Aygo X
IT’S often said that the best things come in small packages – and for proof you need look no further than the all-new Toyota Aygo X. Ever-tightening emissions regulations and increasing costs have forced most manufacturers to slash city cars from their price lists, but Toyota is bucking the trend with its box-fresh baby.
In a twist on the traditional small-car formula, the Japanese firm’s entry-level model has been given a rugged SUV makeover, with chunky body cladding and a raised height. It’ll also be packed with eye-catching personalisation options, including funky body-coloured inserts and even a full-length fabric sunroof.
Despite its dinky dimensions, the newcomer should be roomier than its predecessor, because the Aygo X uses the TNGA-B platform from the Yaris supermini. This also means it will get advanced safety systems and a nine-inch HD Smart Connect infotainment system. It also carries over some of its predecessor’s quirky features, such as its pop-out rear windows.
All versions of the Aygo X will be powered by a 71bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit with a five-speed manual gearbox or an optional CVT automatic. Toyota is targeting 60mpg and CO2 emissions of just 109g/km, with these low running costs helping to offset the slightly high £14,795 starting price.
