RELY ON A RAY

OF THE HALF DOZEN OR SO species of ray regularly caught around the British Isles, the thornback has the widest distribution while almost all of the other varieties are primarily found off the south and west coasts.

Caught over a range of ground types, an ideal mark for thornbacks would be mixed ground consisting of patches of sand, shingle, rock and mud, ideally in the vicinity of mussel
