‘I’VE FINALLY GOT MY MOJO BACK’

Nkolika Oraka, 39, is a solicitor and lives with her fiancé Michael in Hull, East Yorkshire.

After I’d slipped into an off-the-shoulder, sparkly green dress, I looked back at my reflection in the mirror. The traditional Nigerian tailor-made gown, with a slit to the thigh, fitted like a glove and showed off my new figure perfectly. My partner Michael smiled and told me, ‘You look amazing.’

It was a far cry from the last time I’d ordered a made-to-measure outfit, when my straight-talking mum had warned the seamstress, ‘Be careful, Nkolika’s bottom is quite large!’

Lost fitness

As a teenager, my love of sport, especially hockey and netball, had kept me toned and athletic and, at 10st, I was much slimmer than most of my relatives had been at that age.

When I’d left university, I joined a women’s netball team, but working long hours to qualify as a solicitor soon took its toll on my healthy lifestyle.
