On September 17, 1935, the Commonwealth of the Philippines elected Manuel Quezon to be president. By early 1936, the Philippine Constabulary was transferred to the Philippine Army to become the first regular division of the army. It was about this time that Japanese aggression against China indicated that it would soon be only a matter of time before the Philippines might be in danger. By July 26, 1941, U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt called all the organized military forces of the Philippines to be part of the United States Forces in the Far East. It was just four months later when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor.

By early 1942, all organized resistance in the Philippines would cease after the fall of Bataan and Corregidor. Fortunately, after American forces under General MacArthur returned in 1944, the Philippine Army reactivated. It would take ten months, however, before the war ended, the Philippines was quickly liberated,
