WHAT WAS IT like in the 1830s?

From a planetary perspective there had been constant war since ancient times.

There is a Wikipedia article “List of Wars.” The 1830s and 1840s list has more than 50 wars for each decade. Quite a few conflicts took place in and around India.

There was a war between the Gurkhas and the Sikhs in 1809, and an Anglo-Nepalese war in 1816. There was a Sino-Sikh war in 1842, the same year as the First Opium War. Three wars between the Sikh Empire and the British East India Company: 1820, 1846 and 1849. The Sikhs also fought the Afghans in 1837. All the fighting ruined the Sikhs, but that’s another story.
