Warwickshire-based Simon Sleep is, by any measure, a lorry enthusiast of the first order. By day, he runs Kenilworth based Warwickshire Waste, one of the area’s leading waste disposal and skip hire companies. 52 year old Simon is very much a hands-on boss, too, and as well as owning the business, he drives the lorries alongside the drivers he employs.
But away from work, he also owns several preserved vehicles, one of which, is the fine restored 1967 Bedford KM skip lorry seen here, a lorry which has been a popular attendee at many shows and events over the past five years.
Make no mistake about it, the skip and recycling industry is in Simon’s blood, and has been since he was on secondary school age. It all started when, aged about 12, he spent weekends and school holidays driving a tractor and trailer within what is now Kenilworth’s Cherry Orchard Recyling Centre.
