All to play for as steam, diesel and totem battle for top honours

WITH Merlin and badge from LNER A4 Pacific No. 60027 not selling under the hammer – the pair did go to a new home three days after the sale for £35,000 – it was all to play for in the highest reaches of GW Railwayana’s November 13 auction. In the end it was a victory for another steam contender, but it was a close-run thing due to a station totem sign and diesels getting in on the act.

The top from No. 60026 – with from LMS Jubilee No. 45623 not far behind at £12,100, and from another LNER representative, A1 No. 60121, hot on its heels at £11,500.
