HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE (TVNZ 2, 7.30pm). The start of an obscure series of films about a boy magician, his mates, his wacky teachers and a giant hairy man. There were books, too, apparently. See page 63 about a class reunion. (2001)

SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE (TVNZ Director Danny Boyle’s Oscar-winning, energetically entertaining Bollywood-Hollywood fable about a teen (Dev Patel) whose life in the Mumbai slums has set him up to be a quiz-show champ. (2009)
