Summer road trip south

The sun was shining and the ferry booked for a road trip to the South Island. We have friends and places to visit, business to attend to and other things to do after so much time at home working.

Our Interislander trip was delayed, and a mix up with a wrong phone number keyed into the system saw us miss out on the notifications, so instead of being on the 9.15am ship, we lounged in the motorhome at lovely Lyall Bay enjoying the sun, walking the dog and doing a little shopping to fill in time. Eventually we left on the 4pm sailing, and enjoyed the view out the windows as the Wellington coastline came into view, and stayed in view, and kept staying in view. As a seasoned traveller on the ferry I was super confused – the coast usually disappears about half an hour out of the Wellington Heads, but not today. We) a small group of islands in Cook Strait, off the east coast of Arapaoa Island – then we would turn into the entrance to Queen Charlotte Sound, and down to Picton. A much longer trip than expected, but quite interesting to go this alternate way.
