HE FIRST made a name for himself playing the portly Dan Conner on the hit sitcom Roseanne and filled the screen in dozens of roles since then – a larger-than-life star with a big laugh and a belly to match.

But the actor who stepped out on the red carpet recently looked nothing like the John Goodman movie watchers have come to know.

For many fans the slimmer John was a big surprise – he was half the size he used to be. Quite literally.

The 69-year-old actor has shed an astonishing 90kg, halving his 181kg frame.
