Since its inception in 1926, Pontiac was exported to virtually every major market area around the world, including Britain. The story of Pontiac in Britain starts with Oakland, as it did when Pontiac was created as a General Motors ‘companion brand’ to Oakland in 1926. Although the two brands were not connected in the same way in Britain as they were in America, they formed an intrinsic part of the presence of the American motor car in Britain.
The Oakland Motor Car Company Ltd was formed in London on November 12, 1912, by Frederick S Bennett, who also ran the Cadillac franchise
