Most of my historical knowledge was garnered studying The Adventures of Asterix as a child, before I graduated to Sven Hassel, Sharpe and Horatio Hornblower in my teenage years. Had I sat an exam on the periods these learned texts covered, I would more than likely possess a doctorate in the subject.
