Welcome to TOTAL FILM

his month we’re looking into our cinematic crystal ball – OK, the film release schedule – to get giddy about the gifts awaiting us team-excitement levels. A movie that feels genuinely fresh in presenting a brand-spanking-new character who’s going to change thing in the DCEU. was already an exhilarating proposition, but when you sit down with star and producer Dwayne Johnson to talk about it, the hairs really stand up on the back of your neck. Dwayne, or ‘DJ’ to his friends, is always passionate about his projects, but he’s positively evangelical about this movie and, as a self-confessed nerd, desperate to get it right. And that heat-seeking determination and obsession is in keeping with the Kahndaq agitator with the iron fist – though DJ laughs more than Adam, has more tequila bottles on his sideboard, and is a softie with the small dog winding round his legs. He got me stoked for what 2022 will bring, and we hope that this issue, crammed with next year’s must-sees, gets you similarly fired up. I know we said this last year, but next year to better than this one, right? And even if it isn’t, we know we have Adam, Maverick, Bruce, Thor, Porpentina, Shuri… to keep us company in the dark. We hope you have a very happy holiday season and we’ll see you in January.
