SCOOP OF THE YEAR

When AMCN was granted a blast on a then-unreleased Ducati prototype. Our man Adam Child was given one mechanic and even less details about a 17-inch-wheel shod Multistrada before he was let loose on a small racetrack in Italy. It turned out to be the firm’s top-shelf $44,500 Pikes Peak version.

BLUNDER OF THE YEAR

That time Aprilia published an official announcement that Andrea Dovizioso was joining Aleix Espargaro in the factory Aprilia squad for 2022. Unsurprisingly the very same press release, albeit with changes only to the headline, rider’s name and picture, was released announcing Maverick Vinales had, indeed, signed for that very seat. We forwarded it to our MotoGP man Neil Morrison, who scurried down to the team garage as soon as it landed in our inbox, who reported back that a very red-faced Aprilia employee muttered “of course it’s a mistake.” A shout out to Hobart reader Brad Bakker for alerting us to the news when it was published on Aprilia Austria’s website.

Special mention goes to AMCN, who failed to include former world champs Andrew Pitt, Chris Vermeulen and Jason Doyle in our 70th Anniversary edition’s feature of Australia’s most successful racing exports. Sorry fellas.
