Q&A FUEL PUMP RESISTANCE

My MG Maestro has been behaving as if it’s running out of fuel. It would start up, conk out, then start up and run fine. This went on for about four weeks until it finally wouldn’t start at all. I’d already fitted a new rotor arm after the old one had lost continuity. The AA recommended that the fuel pressure needed to be checked again. As we were in lockdown at the time, the car sat unattended for some months until it finally made it to the garage. Initially tracing the problem to the fuel pump, they eventually concluded that it is getting live feed at the start, sufficient to prime the pump, before then losing the live feed. They are suggesting that the starter motor could be at fault (not the starter solenoid?) so suggested
