THE YEAR AHEAD FOR CLASSIC BOATS

If 2020 was the wash-out summer and 2021 was a tentative comeback for sailing, then what will 2022 bring, you might wonder? We can only hope that the pandemic is in retreat and that the sun comes out to play, because there are some special events planned, in addition to the usual, very busy regatta schedule worldwide. If all goes according to plan, the year will kick off in the Caribbean this 30 March to 4 April, 2022, with the well-loved Antigua Classic Yacht Regatta, which has been the victim of the pandemic for the last two years running. See antiguaclassics.com.

In the Med, the usual series of big regattas including will play out throughout the is in the pipeline; and a special regatta is planned to commemorate the life of another British yacht designer, the roguish king of Cowes, It will mark the 50th anniversary of the yacht designer’s death and will be organised by the Royal London Yacht Club, together with the Cowes Classic Boat Museum, and supported by the Atalanta Owners Association and the Cowes Corinthian Yacht Club. The regatta will be part of a series of events in Cowes from 18-21 August 2022. Racing will be for dinghies, keelboats and classic boats designed by Fox alone. The Classic Boat Museum will hold various events including seminars and an exhibition of Fox’s dinghies.See .
