Wes is such a wonderful inspiration for so many players – what was your motivation for doing the album?

“Wes has been such an inspiration to so many generations of jazz guitar players. He just had a very direct, sort of melodic approach. And he’s such a massive, massive entity. I think that sooner or later, every jazz guitarist is going to be confronted by his legacy – it’s pure and honest and open. When it all boils down to it, he’s the man, basically. I guess I’ve sort of been known as the Wes guy for years and years. And I was never really that guy –
