Fresh Dresses and Warm Clothes

Having school clothes was never a big problem for me. My grandmother, Bertha Workman, could make anything out of the printed calico fabric from flour and feed sacks. And all of her family kept warm in winter thanks to her beautiful hand-stitched quilts. People waited in line for Grandma to make some available for sale.
On weekends,., to visit. My younger sister, Brenda, and I knew there would probably be a surprise for each of us. We were never disappointed. We two girls would squeal with delight when we saw our freshly made, washed, starched and ironed dresses hanging in plain sight.
