Europe lacks any moral authority on refugees

The EU has called it “hybrid warfare”. Nato secretary general Jens Stoltenberg accused Russia of “weaponising” the refugee issue (Big story, 19 November).

But it was EU member state Poland that deployed 15,000 troops and used tear gas and water cannon to push back around 2,000 desperate asylum seekers from its eastern border, with full EU and Nato backing. They included Yazidi women fleeing genocide in Iraq.
