We’ve been here before, except the last time the world wasn’t ready for a superbike-based naked bike. So it’s entirely appropriate that the new Streetfighter from Ducati is called the V2 – not because it’s based on the Panigale V2, but because it is Ducati’s second attempt at the concept... and this time, the world is ready.
It’s a sign of just how much we have moved on that today’s baby Streetfighter has the same power output as the original 1098 Streetfighter. It and its smaller sibling, the 848 Streetfighter, were ahead of their time, and both were discontinued in 2015 due to a lack of interest. Today, naked bikes are big business as our tastes evolve and, like many of the other players, Ducati is no different. Its 2022 price list shows a line-up of 25 bikes with just six of them having fairings. All variants of the Monster, Hypermotard, Scrambler, Multistrada, Diavel, XDiavel and Streetfighter have one thing in common – no fairing. Only the Panigale and Supersport models have bodywork.
