WHEN we talk of fairytales we’re referring to short stories that usually involve a prince or princess who lives in an undefined place – a kingdom far, far away. The stories include fantasy creatures such as fairies, giants, elves, dragons and mermaids.

A fairytale usually involves an ordinary person swept up in a fantastical situation, and ends happily while teaching a moral lesson. These tales are so familiar that you might be surprised to learn many of them are thousands of years old. Let’s find out more.
