The inaugural Bug-In was held on Sunday, October 20, 1968. Vic Wilson, the first Mexican 1000 off-road race winner, started the event. The venue was a new racing facility, Orange County International Raceway, which started operation in August 1967. OCIR became a premier track on the West Coast and home of major NHRA national events such as the World Finals (1981-83).
