Hammerstone Strikes Gold
After nearly two years of sparse-to-zero crowds at live wrestling shows, fans flocked to the 2300 Arena in South Philadelphia to see Alexander Hammerstone fulfill his destiny.
MLW FIGHTLAND WAS a transformative occasion. Held at the famed 2300 Arena (formerly the ECW Arena) in Philadelphia, the massively hyped main event featured Alexander Hammerstone vs. Jacob Fatu—regarded as one of the most eagerly awaited title bouts of 2021. Two giants battled for the prestigious MLW National openweight championship and World heavyweight championship titles.
Hammerstone vs. Fatu headlined a taping that spanned more than four hours, from the opening match to the final bell. The explosive undercard was reason enough to buy a that it was the “culmination of something that I had laid out in February 2020 for Alex Hammerstone.” While Bauer didn’t foresee all the pandemic-induced delays, his master plan always included a build to the Battle Riot match—originally set for July 2020 in the “City Of Brotherly Love”—that would eventually lead to Hammerstone challenging Fatu. In a stroke of serendipity, Bauer’s plan for a Hammerstone/Fatu fight would still ultimately materialize.
