WELCOME TO THE fourth edition of “Smooth’s Court: A Global Wrestling Experience.” Wrestling around the globe is starting to heat back up, especially as numerous countries get a better grip of their handle on COVID-19. Japan has recently announced fewer restrictions on mass gatherings and shorter quarantine periods for those coming into the country. The wrestling scene in Mexico is also returning to a sense of normalcy as Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and CMLL (Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre) have returned to running events on a more regular basis.
Speaking of CMLL, the 88 Anniversary show successfully defended their title against . Throughout the years, women wrestlers in Mexico have found it difficult to break through; was notable as one of few trainers willing to work with women in the mid-1980s in Mexico. While the historic event may not create a renaissance for the luchadoras, it is a step in the right direction.
