BODY BLOW

ne of the combat mechanics we’re especially prone to forgetting in the moment is’s most useful: focus attacks. These are powered by a blue gauge at the bottom of the screen, which fills up with each hit you land. Once unleashed, time slows to a treacly halt, as you pick a part of the body to target with a powerful, unblockable attack. This is another concept lifted from Pak Mei. (As Colussi explains the importance of “striking a part of the body that will stop you from attacking,” we can’t help but note that he’s eyeing up our pressure points.) Whether you choose to go for the eyes or knock out your victim’s legs from under them, it’ll buy you valuable moments to prepare for the next assault.
