HAM RADIO EXPLORER

Welcome!

This month I begin a new column at CQ Amateur Radio. “Ham Radio Explorer” will be a quarterly column focusing on you trying out new aspects of amateur radio. I will be writing the column (Photo A), but I will depend on you to explore with me by trying the new modes, bands, activities, etc., that I focus on. Sometimes it might be helpful to have a ham friend work with you on the activities; or even better, incorporate the activity into a project with your local radio club.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of my first amateur radio license. One of the things that has kept me active over this time has been discovering new bands, modes, and activities. I hope we can explore these and more in future columns. If you have already tried each column’s topic, consider mentoring other hams who have not yet tried this facet of ham radio.
