HOW I WROTE…

After three months of research, two months of plotting, ten weeks of writing, six months of searching for a publisher and the customary one year of editorial process, my ‘lighthouse gothic’ novel I am the Sea has finally been published. It was the first book I’d written for two years. Here, I’m going to explain the inside story of how it came together from the first idea to the publication process.

The idea

I knew I wanted to write another novel but I didn’t have an idea. I’d researched the history of reading and writing for a possible dystopian novel but couldn’t see a plot that interested me. Then I spent a long time looking into artificial intelligence but didn’t feel sufficient enthusiasm for the subject. It was only when idly watching a YouTube video about living in a lighthouse that I had the idea.
