NEW YEAR HONOURS AWARDS 2022

Wallcoverings

New neutrals, tiles as art and showstopping wallpapers – digitally printed and handmade – make the grade in our selection this year

LITTLE GREENE

Of note this year from Little Greene were its ‘Stone’ paint collection and ‘National Trust Papers II’ wallpaper collection. Offering an array of tempting warm neutrals to transition away from greys, ‘Stone’ included 11 new, rich colours inspired by Little Greene’s ongoing collaboration with the National Trust, capturing key colours from different periods. This partnership also formed the basis of the range of wallpapers, which were inspired by original designs at historic properties owned by the charity – from a quirky snail motif to a more classic Jacobean tree of life design, the collection is perfect for updating a period home.

BALINEUM

Tiles are often selected for function and practicality, however, these beautiful designs by artist Wayne Pate for Balineum make this medium an art form. Distinctive and impactful, these tiles just as easily be displayed on a shelf as an object of beauty as used as a wallcovering. Each of Pate’s distinctive geometrics and graphic floral depictions are hand-painted onto the tiles in Italy.

SUSAN DELISS

Given Susan Deliss’s extensive knowledge and love of antique textiles, her first foray into wallpapers was bound to be exciting. Inspired by embroideries and antique weaves in her fabric collection, the Maribor design is bold and distinctive, combining pattern and stripe, but very useable. Available in four colourways, each paper is hand-painted and block-printed. A true exhibition of craftsmanship and beauty.

ARTE

Singling out one collection from Arte’s extensive creative offerings this year was challenging. The Manila collection of six wallcoverings in a variety of colourways stood out for its exquisite artistry. Combining organic and floral shapes crafted out of threads hand-laid onto paper backing, each design is full of texture, creating a sumptuous backdrop that is tactile and luxurious. We were captivated by the craftsmanship and innovation, as well as the natural inspiration for the designs.

COLE & SON

We admired the range of techniques, styles and artistry displayed in a special collection of wallpaper
