PUNCHING UP

When Riot Games Wannounced it was making an animated TV show two years ago, it made sense. After all, League of Legends trailers have been a fascinating apex of excellent music, animation, and alluring character vignettes. Who wouldn’t want to see Riot’s take on a sprawling episodic story? But unlike the trailers that laid its foundation, Arcane isn’t just a gorgeous bit of animation set to some bangin’ tunes. It’s also a character-driven story about a family torn apart by ambition and oppression. And for co-creators Alex Yee and Christian Linke, Arcane is also a dream they’ve been working on for over six years.

“It’s been such an investment that there’s just a lot of excitement and giddiness for people to finally see the things that we’ve known for so long and never really been able to share with anyone,” Linke says.
