SONGBIRD
By the time you read this, Kaitlyn Dever will be in Australia. The Gold Coast, to be exact, where the film stars go. She is in town to make a romantic comedy aptly titled Ticket To Paradise in which she appears alongside – drum roll, please, if we can’t get a drum roll for this, when can we? – Julia Roberts and George Clooney. The premise is some delightful, peak rom-com nonsense: long-separated exes must overcome their enmity if they have any hope of stopping the ill-advised wedding of their cherished daughter. Dever will play that daughter, a role that is set to anoint her as the radiant, next-gen American sweetheart. And as a rom-com superfan, who spent most of lockdown bingeing the genre’s classics, Dever couldn’t be more excited.
“How crazy is that? So wild,” Dever says, laughing a little, her presence. “I just think the world of him as a director,” Dever enthuses. “It’s going to be so much fun. I haven’t met George and Julia yet, but I need to calm down first.” Just another thing to look forward to. “Looking forward to embarrassing myself,” she replies, jokingly.
