It’s been his therapy, and mine too, to an extent. It’s our hobby, and we want to keep it that way
“Aye, you’re not bad car builders for a pair of wood butchers.” Now imagine that sentence coming from the mouth of Bryan Whitfield, with his dulcet Sheffield lilt, and I implore you not to smile.
After spending nearly two hours on the ’phone to Martin Backhouse, another Sheffield native, joiner, and the owner of this ’68 Camaro, I’m smiling, too.
But it’s not all been a bed of roses. In 2014, Martin’s nephew, Marcus, suffered a stroke that left him without the use of the left side of his body. Through dogged determination – pig-headedness, to use Martin’s word – he’s come through it and regained the use of much of that side of his body, and working on cars together has helped the healing process.
