or his “duty to queen and country” for 15 years actor has been made a commander in the British Royal Navy—just like James Bond, the MI6, who between 1941 and ’91 headlined 57 USO tours worldwide. In 1997 Congress made him an honorary veteran of the U.S. Armed Forces—all branches. For her decades of service to the USO actress was made an honorary colonel in the Marines and honorary lieutenant colonel in the Army. Actor , who played Navy Lt. Dan Taylor in the 1994 film and has devoted decades to veterans’ causes, was made an honorary chief petty officer in the Navy and an honorary Marine. For bringing positive attention to the armed forces actor was made an honorary naval aviator, star was made an honorary brigadier general in the Air Force, and cartoon character was made an honorary master sergeant in the Marines (for his role in the 1943 animated short ). Last but not least are the honorary colonels of American Legion Hollywood Post 43, which since 1932 has recognized stars for their support of the U.S. military. Actor —who since 2005 has co-hosted with Sinise the National Memorial Day Concert on the Mall in Washington, D.C.—received the recognition in 2016.
