WHEN it’s growing in a hedgerow, or on the edge of a wood, or deep in the shade of a forest, how does a climber climb? What does it use for support?
Well, some twine, some have tendrils, some have twisting leaf stalks, some have aerial roots and some scramble more than climb, but all use other plants for support.
The old man’s beard in the hedge uses the hedgerow shrubs for support. The occasional trunks of oaks or the field maple along the hedge supports
