ALTHOUGH the first part of its Latin name, , means ‘chattering’, ‘babbling’ or ‘noisy’, I was not alerted to the Eurasian call. Instead, out of the corner of my eye, I saw the flash of its soft salmon-pink plumage and iridescent teal-blue wing feathers, as it flitted from one fence post to another in a field next to the lane where I walk our dogs.
