‘465/2’ ‘Networkers’ stopped

SOUTHEASTERN retired the last of its Class 465/2 sub-class units on October 15, when the final examples were removed from traffic. The 16 units (Nos. 465235-250) were the only members of the four Class 465 sub-fleets not to have undergone any major upgrades since their construction – the 97 Class 465/0 and 465/1 sets were fitted with a new Hitachi traction package in 2009/10, while Nos. 465201-234 were reconfigured with first class seating in 2005 and renumbered into the 4659XX series.

By late October, most of the ‘465/2’ sets had made their way to Worksop for secure storage. Taken north from Gillingham to the HNRC site by No. 37884 in recent weeks have been Nos. 465241/244 (September 27), 465250 (September 30), 465247 (October 4). 465242/248 (October 11) and 465238/249 (October 18), while No. 57310 formed the 5Q26 10.59 Gillingham-Worksop with No. 465240 on October 21. Four days later, No. 37884 took Nos. 465239/243 north. A full list of ‘Networkers’ stored at Worksop is shown below, including five Class 466 sets, of which several more are expected to arrive in the coming weeks, as more Class 707s enter service with Southeastern.
