Phone biometrics
If you’re looking at getting hold of a new phone this Christmas, during your shopping you’ll probably have come across more than a few howlers about built-in biometric security systems. Fingerprint scanners, iris scanners and facial recognition are features on even low-cost phones now, allowing users to unlock, allegedly securely, without having to laboriously tap in their password every time, Not all phones are created equal in this regard, however. There are some pretty big differences between a cheap capacitive fingerprint scanner and an ultrasound fingerprint scanner, for example, and 3D facial recognition is a world away from 2D facial recognition in terms of ease of hacking.
