    Actraiser was a 1993 Super Nintendo game that was ahead of its time. By combining a side-scrolling action platformer with RPG elements with a top-down city/settlement building sim, Actraiser managed to be both genre smashing and visionary at a time when games were only slowly moving into deeper complexity.

    Even 30 years later, still holds up as a phenomenal piece of game design, with a cracking story, great music and wonderful gameplay. So, it was apt that its publisher/developer, Square Enix, would celebrate this title with a remake of sorts – is both follows the program of the original well – the world is plagued with monsters and demons, and the people pray to the heavens for help. You play as the angel sentby the gods to assist the people via both a physical entity (the hero that fights in the side scrolling sections) as well as the floating winged entity herself, guiding the people by assisting them in building roads, houses, workshops and more.
