Joy Campbell doesn’t consider herself a design purist. “I love primitive, Colonial, grungy, broken, chippy, stained and anything else tattered and worn that catches my eye,” the Massachusetts resident admits. She gathers and mixes it all with charming effect in the Cape Cod-style home she shares with her husband, Todd, and sons Kempton, Phoenix and Kinnick.

The family moved into the four-bedroom, 2,000-square-foot residence in 2012 after having lived all over the country. Todd is a professor, and they found this house online while researching a move to Massachusetts from Utah. The family has always liked New England, and a career opportunity
