A safe haven for neglected big cats

Ill-treated and neglected big cats from all over the world are given a home at FOUR PAWS.

The team meets the physical requirements of the animals, as well as their mental and psychological needs.

In South Africa, 12 000 lions and 1 500 tigers are kept in captivity, which has tainted the country’s international standing as a leader in wildlife management and conservation, says Fiona Miles, country director of FOUR PAWS South Africa.

The FOUR PAWS Big Cat Sanctuary (FOUR PAWS) was founded on 4 March 1988 by Helmut Dungler in Austria to protect big cats kept in captivity, especially in zoos, under private ownership and in the entertainment industry.
