What is your favorite historical story or time period surrounding a coin? Why?

I appreciate U.S. coins from the 19th and pre-WWII 20th centuries. The designs are generally more appealing to me. The diversity of varieties within a given category like Seated Liberty halves is a complex story. I also appreciate the palpable history of an object, like a pre-Civil War “O” mint item or, say, 1850s gold from California and “S” mint, Gold Rush, etc. Hop-scotching from Capped Bust designs to Barber, Standing or Walking Liberty coinage, 2- and 3-cent pieces is a breathless universe of variety and knowledge.
